Chance Encounters: People We Remember

Now Playing: Forest of Destiny by Twilight Force

So one thing that I think is interesting is that sometimes, we meet someone by chance and we remember them for years to come, even though we’ll probably never meet them again.

These people may not have been anyone of any particular note, they may not have even had a strong impact on one’s life as a whole, but for some reason, we remember them because there was something they did or said that was interesting or weird or unexpected.

My own story of this happened when I was in high school and taking the city bus to school early in the morning to go to rehearsals for my school orchestra.

Now, I was taking the bus to school every other week, and there was a specific bus driver who I saw relatively regularly on the route that I took who was notable for one thing only. He was an older man, I’d say probably in his mid 60s or so, and every time I saw him on the bus, he was singing.

Now, these were pretty early bus rides, since the rehearsals I was going to were before the main school day. This man wasn’t a great singer by any means, but he was still good, and it was very clear that he loved singing and music. His voice was rather deep and clear, likely sitting in a baritone type range.

I don’t remember any of the songs he sang now, but I remember sitting on the bus and choosing to not listen to my own music on those bus rides because I wanted to listen to him sing.

Eventually, he disappeared. I don’t know what happened to him; maybe he retired, maybe he passed away, maybe he quit, I’ll likely never know. But I will remember him, likely for the rest of my life.

So, random bus driver who sang on those early morning bus rides, wherever you are now, I wish you all the best and I still remember you six years later.

Anyway, this was just a little something I thought of again recently and have been wanting to share. It feels kinda nice to be able to just remember him somewhere, even if it is just some random blog post that very few people will probably ever see.

Have a good night, stay safe out there. Appreciate your local musicians, they deserve it.
