Now Playing: King of the Elves by Elvenking
Each person who turns to paganism has their own reasons for doing so, but most often because they felt some sort of calling to this path. But what happens when that calling goes away?
Losing that sense of calling to the path can cause some to feel a sense of loss or detachment from the religion as a whole, and like there wasn’t really a reason for them to be there in the first place, no matter how deeply they believe. The detachment can leave a person feeling like there’s nothing holding them to the path and like they are unworthy because they no longer feel that calling.
I sometimes get that feeling of detachment myself. I’ve gotten it several times in the past, and it’s a contributing factor into why I started this blog. And while most of my disconnect was with community and connections among other pagans in my life, I’ve also felt the disconnect from losing that sense of calling.
Feeling disconnected from one’s faith can also occur due to getting busy with school or work. I’ve had this with my own life, since my schedule can get quite busy between classes, assignments, my work schedule, and various extra curricular activities.
However, there are ways to fit ways to connect and reconnect with one’s faith within the confines of a busy life. These are just little things that people may find useful in connecting with their faith with limited time.
Method 1: Wearing Jewellery
Jewellery can be a very easy and semi affordable way to have a connection to one’s religion when time is of the essence. Within Heathenry specific jewellery, it’s pretty easy to find some necklaces and rings online with Mjölnir or other common symbols, though it’s always important to keep an eye out for neo-Nazi specific symbols that occasionally make their way into these categories. One of my personal favourite sites for Heathen related jewellery, especially in more traditionally masculine styles that may be harder to find elsewhere, is called Gthic. The jewellery is mostly stainless steel, and often very affordable, with most of it being $30-$70 CAD. They have six pieces that are made of Damascus steel, and those are quite expensive, with the cheapest clocking in at $96 CAD. This is very understandable, though, since it is Damascus steel.
Method 2: Meditating During Your Commute
This generally works better if your commute is by bus or something in that vein, but can also be done while driving, just so long as you’re still taking care to pay attention to the road in front of you. It’s as simple as it sounds. Basically, just take a moment during your commute to or from school, work, or wherever else it is you’re going to pray or meditate or appreciate the nature you can see in your area. This has helped me to feel more connected with my personal path during busy and stressful periods and it may help others as well.
While there are other options and other methods I’m probably not thinking of, these are two methods that have helped me and I hope they can help others as well.
