Now Playing: Berserkir by Brothers of Metal
An announcement that felt like it was coming since last summer has finally dropped. Brothers of Metal are releasing a new album on November 1st, 2024, titled Fimbulvinter. They have three singles released, one of which is confirmed to be on the new album.
Heavy Metal Viking is the most recent single, being in a style that is very unique for the band, and very different from their typical style, and even the style of the last two singles. It’s a much more 80s disco-rock style song, though it is still distinctly a metal song. As a song, it feels new and weird, but in a way that makes sense for the band.
With the digital release of Heavy Metal Viking on streaming platforms including the two singles released in 2022, we can assume those will be included on the new album as well. The Other Son of Odin was originally released on its own as a single in March of 2022, and Berserkir was released in December of 2022 as a single, and included The Other Son of Odin on the single. The year and a half between singles feels a bit strange, but it’s also not fully weird, considering the first two singles were likely written and recorded sooner, and there are 8 separate parts to record per track, without taking into consideration any extra backing parts that may be recorded for the studio versions.
So far, this album is shaping up to be very unique from their last two albums, and I’m curious to see where it goes. I’m interested to see if they keep the rest of the album in the more traditional power metal sound that was in The Other Son of Odin, or if they have a bit more of the darker sound that came along in Berserkir, or if they go with something else entirely. It’ll be interesting to see, and I’ll definitely try to get around to going through that once it drops.
