Now Playing: Live or Die by Apocalyptica feat Joakim Brodén
The first week or so of February is always a bit of a hectic time for me. There’s a high day right off the bat, with my anniversary with one of my partners a couple days later. That’s a lot of things happening over a couple of days, when compared to the space between major events otherwise.
As a result, I have a tendency to just lump the two into one celebration on my end. (They’re close enough, may as well.) But when it gets into how that comes across, that can be interesting sometimes.
Because of the proximity to Valentine’s Day as well, I tend to view spending time with my partner for our anniversary as an adequate celebration of the February cross quarter as well. It is, after all, a celebration of the upcoming change of seasons and end of winter.
We tend to treat it as just another date, but slightly more fancy, often involving alcohol (we normally don’t drink on our dates, just because we have things to do the next day usually) and some food we wouldn’t normally have. (Though, sometimes, we have food we would have anyway, just because that’s easier to fall back on when it comes to potential sensory issues.) We will also often watch a couple episodes of a show together, providing a nice break from reality for a couple hours.
This year is 3 years of us being together, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our relationship isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it works for us and we’re happy. (And at the end of the day, isn’t that what matters?)
We may expand and separate the high day celebration from our anniversary next year, it just depends on a variety of other factors in our lives, with having the time between us. Updates on that will come as they come up.
