Ostara: Spring Equinox

Now Playing: Gone Epoch by Elvenking

So Ostara was a bit ago. (Like almost a full week ago, at this point, get off my ass, my brain sucks.) Ostara is the name most pagans use to describe the spring equinox, especially in pan pagan spaces that involve multiple traditions.

A feast of fertility and new life, there are different specific deities that will be the focus, depending on individual practice. Some people’s practices, like the way I’ve been going lately, don’t have a specific deity they attach to each individual high day, instead going for a more general worship of nature and the world around them. (I do this because I’m kinda busy, but oh well.)

Now, exploring what to do with the celebration surrounding this is always very individual, and I find that trying to always be the one to organise something is tiring. I do plan to attend a private rite tonight (26th March), but that isn’t an option for everyone. I find that light and floral things always tend to make sense for a spring festival, considering the time of year.

And if light and floral isn’t your vibe because you, like me, think black looks better, remember that though not naturally occurring, black flowers (and depictions, if they can’t be afforded) look really cool and can be used as a stand in. Be cool. Be goth. Be metal. Wear black.
